2015 was quite a busy year. I am grateful to all of you who hired me to capture all your love, tender memories, details, portraits, and important events. Thank you so much for allowing me to use my heart, my eyes, and my camera to be of service to you.
(The photo collages are a little bit of almost everything I worked on this year. )
I traveled mainly locally this year, photographing projects and weddings in Asheville, North Carolina, Myrtle Beach, San Diego, Ojai, Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, Irvine, Rancho Bernardo, Malibu, Laguna, San Juan Capistrano, Newport Beach, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Utah, New Canaan, Connecticut, Charleston, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.
(in 2014 I was in Stockholm, Panama, New York, Calistoga, Big Sur +) I love traveling!!!! It's kind of been non stop for the last few years)
The talented designer goddess, Kelly Wearstler, brought me in a few times this year to capture candid feeling details, accessories, and even a fun holiday portrait. Baldwin& hired me to photograph behind the scene stills for their very clever commercials for Cree. I loved the whole crew!
Los Angeles Magazine Photo Editor, Amy Feitelberg, sent me out with Fashion Editor, Linda Immediato to do another fun year of Style Stake Outs. I photographed natural feeling head shots and lifestyle work for for my clients' businesses including my past bride, Jennifer McKay, for her new Define Me Fragrance. I did portraits for Dionne Anderson of Arrange Floral, Software Developer Erik Osterman (also my oldest friend), and my third portrait of therapist Rachel Barr, and I even shot some dating profile photos for some friends. lol.
I photographed food for The Well Bred Bakery in Asheville, NC, and got to eat almost everything I shot! My food shots made the cover of Capital at Play and some inside too! I photographed the International Day of Happiness in Laguna for Live Happy Magazine. Cassie & Jordan's wedding was published in I Do! Magazine :)!
To help keep me connected to the commercial world since I shifted my focus on weddings, I happily assisted San Francisco photographer/filmmaker Bart Nagel on a job for Uber, worked with commercial lifestyle photographer friend of mine Stephanie Rausser on some fun kids and lifestyle shoots, and I helped architecture/lifestyle photographer Mark Compton on a sailing shoot. I shot a few other photographers weddings and events when they had emergencies. So glad that I could and am comforted to know that if I needed their help one day, I have a strong network of talented caring peers to call upon. ( I hope I never need that kind of help, but hey, we're all human after all and life happens.) I photographed my first Monday wedding at the Bel Air Bay Club.
In the middle of continuing my summer editing, I documented my giant Kentucky family on our trip to Myrtle Beach. There were sixteen of us with six kids under six, and one bun in the oven. I snapped and posted my heart out both my my personal and portfolio Instagram accounts.
In addition to my own projects, I guest shot for the following talented photographers:
Amy & Stuart Photography (my wedding mentors and dear friends) in LA and in Connecticut, with Joan Allen for The Vanity Fair Oscar dinner at which Christina Aguilara performed, Linda Arredando asked me to shoot with her on a very sweet Malibu wedding, I photographed a wedding in Jackson Hole and I road tripped with Joe Goger, my Art Center alumni friend Christopher Benoe brought me on to help on a lovely Persian Pelican Hill wedding, Steven Lam referred me to his awesome planner friend Summer Simmons of Hullabaloo Event Design for her own wedding, HWP Weddings called me in to lead shoot a handful of their projects, I shot a couple projects with and for Jonah Light (another Art Center Alumni), Sam Lim asked me to be part of his team on a Pasadena wedding, I photographed an event for photographer/photo editor/ Spot Photo Works Gallerist, Kathleen Clark, I shot two beautiful projects for The Hearts Haven, and, I finally got to shoot with my friend Michelle Pullman at Rad & In Love.
This year I was so lucky to work with some really great planners, venues, make up artists, dj's and florists. Having a good team to work with makes all the difference.
I can't tell you how many 1000+++ frames I have captured this year, but I replaced both my mirror box, shutter box and added another camera to my kit-$$$. I spent more time editing than shooting! (my delivery is unusually high comparatively.) Is less more, or is more more. I'm still undecided. I'm still editing the end of my fall/winter for 2015!
In between all the shooting and editing, and the rest of the business stuff, I managed to fit in a little yoga break here and there, a few nice meals, barely a couple dates, and some fun time with my mother and friends. Jen O' Sullivan got me hooked on the Young Living essential oils, I took a welding class at Molten Metal Works and made two Calder inspired mobiles, which was a much needed break away from the computer screen. 2015 was definitely skewed more towards work than play. I'm aiming to make 2016 just the right balance of work, play and rest. Cheers to a year well spent, and Cheers to sweet 2016! I'm excited for the new year ahead.
