“When people think of Los Angeles they think of Hollywood, the beaches, the beautiful Santa Monica mountains, and the homes up in the hills, all of which make a gorgeous setting for any wedding. We wanted to remind everyone that Los Angeles has a vibrant downtown and it’s a romantic setting for a city scape wedding too.
The Wilshire Loft, at 700 Wilshire Blvd, has epic views of the iconic U.S. bank tower and Los Angeles Public Library. These buildings provided a stunning city backdrop by day and the magical glow of twinkling building lights by night.
The Black and White inspiration came from our venue scout at Wilshire Loft. One of our goals was to have fun with the aisle runner. Wilshire Loft has both black and white Chiavari chairs available. Typically, they use the white for the ceremony and the black for the reception. Aurelia, of Aurelia D’Amore Photography, and I wanted to change it up and that’s where the idea for a black and white striped aisle runner and alternating the ceremony chairs came from.
Lori, of Lori’s Flowers, was also immediately inspired, presenting the idea of using anemones to bring both black and white to the florals. She carried this on through the grooms’ boutonnieres, centerpieces, cocktail tables, and detail accents, for example on the cake and at the bar for the whiskey tasting. Lori helped us to “bring green to the city scene” with the use of the latest trend in wedding arches, the “circle arch” or “infinity arch”. This arch can be used for both a ceremony arch and repurposed as the perfect backdrop for the couple at their sweetheart table.
Our use of alternating black and white and the use of stripes continued to other details throughout the setup. You will see the stripes in the more obvious black and white striped table cloths for key tables like the sweetheart table, cake table, and cocktail tables, as well as more subtle details like the grooms suspenders, from The Suspender Store, their socks and pocket squares, and the white on white stripe of all the guest tables.
Annie Carolin, of Flite Design, worked with me to enhance the use of both black and white in alternating ways to print menus and escort cards in both black and white allowing us to play with the colors and alternate them on the tables. Annie even picked up on the stripe detail by lining the inside of the invitation envelopes with a black and white stripe on the diagonal.
Jamaica, of Top Tier Treats, also embraced the concept with her craft. Jamaica brainstormed with me to integrate the textural trends of wedding cakes today along with the perfect balance of black and white. No two layers looked the same, but every layer was thematically perfect. As a surprise, Jamaica took the theme one step further and layered the cakes and the fillings, chocolate and vanilla, to resemble black and white stripes.
Our grooms were handsomely outfitted by Generation Tux and I provided striped accents to compliment. Stephanie, of CreateFacee, finished the look providing grooming for our dapper grooms.
Speaking of our grooms, our shoot would not have been as beautiful or as fun without our talented models Joey Kloberdanz and Scott Brickner (known for our shoot as Andrew Riley and Joshua Gibson). These men embraced the spirit of our vision and made being on location pure joy!
I could not have asked for a more beautiful team, beautiful people, producing beautiful work!”- Amy Greenberg
