"Morten and I met 5 years ago, and we just knew instantly that we were meant to be. We got engaged in October 2012 on a romantic trip to Lissabon. We had dinner at an old rustic restaurant situated on an old stone staircase overlooking Lissabon with all its magic light. Morton took me by surprise by designing a ring and importing just the right green color stone from Australia, where we have lived to together. Of course I said YES immediately!
We both wanted an intimate and romantic wedding without all the fuss, planning and stress it can cause overshadowing what a wedding is truly about: LOVE. So when we booked a five week summer holiday to the States, we knew what we wanted: an intimate elopement wedding on the beach. The sea has always been very important to us and we have a summer house next to the sea back in Denmark - so of course we were to get married barefooted on the beach!
Since it was our first time to the States it was difficult for us to plan the wedding and find the perfect spot for the wedding. Thank god for finding our amazing photographer Aurelia D'Amore! She said she knew this amazing place at Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur and sent us pictures from the spot; we immediately knew it was the right place for us to get married! Everything just made sense. The beautifullness, the roughness, the unpolished nature... WOW!
We arrived to San Francisco and two days later we headed for Monterey and Big Sur - with a little present in my tummy we found out - an April baby :-) What a great gift! It just meant that we were even more in love with each other, if that was ever possible.
On the wedding day we met up with Aurelia, her lovely assistant, and the florist at the Big Sur Bakery. I had my make up done in Monterey and we got dressed at the bakery; very down to earth, just as we wanted! We had a first look moment in the beautiful Loma Vista gardens before we drove to the Big Sur state park to take photos with the giant sequoias, and then to Pfeiffer Beach, were we had the wedding ceremony.
We were incredibly lucky with the weather we were told; there was just a light breeze and lots of sunlight. It was just magical. Apparently, it can be quite windy and sandy at Pfeiffer Beach!
We got married almost with our feet in the water among the rough nature and the waves coming in - oh, it was soooo romantic and so much better and more that we could ever have imagined. It was just the perfect spot for us. I remember looking at Morten, only hearing the sound of the waves, and I felt so much love. I thought, "I'm getting married to this guy, and we're going to become parents together. Lucky me!"
Aurelia did a fantastic job photographing the day - which was especially important for us since our friends and families were not there to celebrate with us. She was just the perfect match for us; so sweet, down to earth and funny. It just felt very natural and not staged at all. It was a nice surprise for our families and friends when we sent home cards with the stunning pictures telling them that we got married - they hadn't really seen that one coming! They of course knew we were engaged, but we had plans for a traditional Copenhagen wedding.
After the wedding we had a very romantic dinner just the two (three) of us in the candle light and then we headed for 4 week road trip honeymoon in the states.
It was just the most romantic day in our lives. I really recommend an elopement wedding to everyone!
